Million years ago, the ocean “Tethys” disappeared due to continents shifting on the surface of the globe. Sedimentation layers were exposed to colossal ground forces and pressure, lifting and folding them into the great eroded limestone mountain ranges, known as: the Fiz, the Chablais and the Dents du Midi… Today, as a testimony, dinosaur tracks and fossils still remain. Away from glaciated alpine valleys and 4000 m peaks, this trek reveals exceptional treasures. In these 15 000 hectares of protected natural reserve, the hiking visitor can admire marmots, chamois and ibexes, eagles and bearded vultures in their natural home; we invite you to experience privilege… DIFFICULTY: 6-day hike, 5H30 to 7 hours daily hikes on and off trails; reaching summits optional, for experienced hikers; light packs ( luggage transported by mini-bus). |

ITINERARY : Day 1: CHAMONIX- MOEDE ANTERNE After a quick ride up the gondola to Planpraz (2000 m), our trip starts with a great panorama. A short hike takes us to Brévent pass (2368m), where we meet the famous GR5 trail, heading down to Pont de l’Arlevé (1597m), and up to the Anterne Pass refuge ( 2002m). Up : 767m Down : 771m Day 2: MOEDE ANTERNE – SAMOENS : First the trail takes us to Pormenaz lake and down into the “Chorde”, a small canyon; we arrive at the chalet du Souay (1569m). Then the hike climbs up to the “Dérochoir”, before dropping down towards the Salles, Pleureuse and Rouget waterfalls (959m). A minibus takes the group to the gîte. Up : 650m Down : 1700m Day 3: SAMOENS- BARME: The hike starts at the Allamands (1096m), heads into the forest and up the alpine meadows to Bostan pass(2290m). After carefully walking by the “pas de la bide”, we’ll drop down into the Illiez bowl, and spend the night at the Cantine des Dents Blanches (1492m). Up : 1100m Down : 830m Day 4: BARME – SALANFE: We hike by the Dent de Bonavau and reach Encel pass (1798m), connecting a high alpine valley and Susanfe pass (2494m). A hike around the glittering Salanfe lake (1952m) down below takes us to the refuge. Up : 1200m Down : 750m Day 5: SALANFE – EMOSSON: Two passes separate Salanfe lake from Emosson lake. Emaney pass sits below Mount Luisin (2785m). This peak provides a great view over the Swiss Alps and Mont-Blanc. The trails then drops into the Emaney bowl (1970m) before heading uphill to Barberine pass (2481m). We hike along the Emosson lake to the Gueulaz refuge (1960m). Up : 1100m Down : 1040m Day 6: EMOSSON-CHAMONIX: This last day starts on the dam to get to the Veudale. Sandstone slabs along the trail still show 200 million year-old Saurians footprints: “dinosaurs tracks” (2400m). Later we’ll hike over Corbeau pass ( 2600m), before dropping down into the wild Tré les Eaux valley to the Couteray (1350m). Finally, a minibus or the train takes us back to Chamonix. Note: For safety reasons, our guides may modify the trek itinerary due to weather, terrain or other conditions. LODGING:5 nights in gardianed huts and gites (dormitories, half board) DOCUMENTATION:passport or valid ID MISC: Bring Swiss francs and Euros for personal expenses Date (summer 2010) : 11 & 25 July / 1st & 8 August. COST (Summer 2010): 665 € per person (6 people minimum) Including: - professional guiding services - half-board in gardianed huts and gites - Take-out lunches - Lifts (if necessary) - Luggage transportation - Bus connections MEETING POINT : Meet your guide the day before, for information at 6 pm at the Compagnie des Guides. Departure: the following day at 9 am at the Compagnie des Guides, next to the Chamonix church. We ask the hereunder deposit payment at the reservation. The remaining has to be paid 21 days before the beginning of the course. |
