The DolomitesThe Himalayas, the Rockies and the Alps are all very different mountain ranges. However, at a glance, it is not always easy to tell them apart. A rocky summit, a tree perched on a mountain slope or snow filled gulleys are traits of all mountain massifs.
Well almost all…because the Dolomites are the exception to the rule and you only have to spend the day there to ensure that you will never again confuse them with any other mountain range. Mountains of coral: this is not the only geological attraction of the Dolomites. Its flora and fauna, and above all else, its history makes this region rich with things to discover.
The beauty of the landscape, added to all these elements, makes the Dolomites a greatly appreciated destination for mountain lovers. Our trek takes place in the nearby region of Cortina d’Ampezzo.
Difficulty : 6 days of walking of 6 to 8 hours, on pathways and varied terrain, altitude gain 700 metres.

ITINERARY
Day 1 : TRE CIMA DI LAVARADO
Early morning transfer to Cortina via Lake Misurina and the foot of the famous Tre Cime di Lavardo, a famous climbing destination with its three vertical peaks reaching to almost 3000 meters. An easy hike on a good trail around the Trois Cimes. A majestic site, where we can also find many vestiges of WW1, such as trenches and galleries. The tour of the massif will bring us to the departure point for the hike, and the transfer to our hotel.
Walking time : 5 – 6 hours.
Day 2 : The SENNES MOUNTAIN HUT
We start with a short transfer to the start of the trail which will lead us to the Sennes mountain hut. Located in the middle of the alpine meadows, we reach the mountain hut via a pretty trail which traverses prairies and sedimentary rocks. After a brief halt at the Biella mountain hut, a small detour to the Forcletta Sora Forno mountain pass will no doubt allow us to sight some mountain ibex. We will continue our descent from the mountain pass until we reach the Sennes hut where we will spend the night.
Walking time : 5 - 6 hours.
Day 3 : BRAIES NATURE PARK
On wakening, the marmots will already be playing in the prairies around the hut, ready to have their photographs taken. A wide slope will lead us to the middle of the flower-filled meadows as far as the military slope cut out of the mountain during the First World War; leading us down to the Pederu mountain hut. From here, we must hike steadily back up in order to find an ideal spot to picnic, before reaching the comfortable Fanes mountain hut, in its delightful natural circus. From the hut it is possible to continue hiking as far as an easy summit. Chamois and mountain ibex are found in abundance in this sector, but patience and observation will be necessary. Evening meal and night in the Fanes mountain hut.
Walking time : 5 - 7 hours.
Day 4 : The LAND OF LADINE
The people of these valleys, isolated for centuries, have kept a strong cultural identity: the ‘Ladin’, a mixture of the German and Latin languages. By following the Alta Via Dolomiti, we traverse some superb countryside as far as the Forcletta des Lago and quickly join a small, pretty lake where we will picnic. A long descent is on the programme for the afternoon in order to rejoin the forest and then the valley where we will find the Valparola mountain hut for the night
Walking time : 6 hours.
Day 5 : PASSO GIAU
From the Falzarego pass we continue our route on the Grand Traverse of the Alps. We will climb to the summit of Nuvolo, where the Nuvolo mountain hut will be a welcome stop. On the descent, we will come across numerous reminders of the Great War, with some trenches having been rebuilt, reminding us of this period of history. A short transfer will take us to our next overnight stop: the Villa Argentina Hotel.
Walking time : 5 hours

Day 6 : MONDEVAL MAN
For centuries, Mondeval was known to the locals as an excellent green pasture area, where the grass was abundant and of good quality. Then one day, tools and remains were excavated and found to date back to Neothilic times. Since then, even a tomb from the same epoch has been unearthed. In traversing this extraordinary site we come to understand just why it has attracted Man for so long. The surrounding nature is simply stunning, with the water and grass making it a paradise for the herds of cattle and horses. After a transfer, we leave for Passo Giau to cross the Forcletta Giau and traverse these magnificent meadows to reach Forcletta Ambrisola where we meet up with our minivan which will take us to Cortina. End of the trek.
Walking time: 6 hours.
