Thanks to the experience of its ski-mountaineering pole, Compagnie des Guides de Chamonix provides the opportunity to reach Zermatt from Chamonix in 3 days only. In order to guarantee the best conditions, this formula includes a logistic assistance. You could be focused only, on your tips, we will take care of the rest!

This formula is dedicated to skiers accustomed to "fast run", who wish to do the Haute-Route in Express! No mountaineering experience is necessary.

 

Itinerary

Info : Following the fire that hit the cable car of les Grands Montets, the itinerary will be modify; with an extra vertical ascent of 300 m. Starting from Bochard lift (2766m), we join Lognan glacier (2700m). Skin up to Les Grands Montets glacier (3050m) through the Rachasses pass. Here, we join the normal route.

Day 1 : Starting from the top of Bochard lift (2766m). We traverse by ski to reach Lognan glacier (2700m). We skin up to Les Grands Montets glacier (3050m) trough the Rachasses pass. We ski down on the Argentiere glacier (vertical loss 780m/ 2559ft) and skin up to Le Passon Mountain pass (3028m) and the Aiguille du Tour (3244m) (depending on the timetable).
We cross over the plateau de Trient, Ecandies pass (2796m) and ski down to Champex-le-lac (1480m). A short transfer to Le Chable-Verbier with a private minibus. Night at the Mont-Fort hut (2457m).
Elevation gain: 1435m/ 3723ft    Vertical loss: 2840m/ 9318ft

Day 2 : Starting from the Mont-Fort hut (2457m) - La Chaux mountain pass (2940m) - Momin mountain pass (3015m), we reach the Momin-Rosablanche mountain pass (3336m).
Then we continue to skin up to La Barma (2458m)- Riedmatten mountain pass (2919m) and ski down to Arolla (2006m).
Elevation gain: 1707m/ 5600ft       Vertical loss: 2070m/ 6791ft

Day 3 : Starting from Arolla (2006m) we skin up to the Berthol pass (3268m)- tête blanche (3707m). A long descent to Zermatt (1690m).
Elevation gain: 1707m/ 5600ft     Vertical loss: 2017m/ 6617ft

This program is a general guideline for the trip. The guide alone can decide and apply changes in the program during the trip, according to weather and terrain conditions, skiers physical condition and skills.

GROUP BOOKING

There is no group-session for this trip. Only on private guiding.
 

PRIVATE BOOKING

Private hiring is the historical relationship that binds a guide to his/her client. It allows you to be alone, or in a constituted group, with your guide that meets your specific needs. It is undoubtedly the ideal formula to realize your projects because it guarantees you a maximum of comfort. You are free to choose your departure date (depending on the availability of the huts) and the itinerary can be adjusted, according to your specific expectations.

Included in the package:
- Mountain guiding service,
- Half-board in mountain huts (dinner, breakfast and night),

Not included in the package :
- Take out lunches and daily snacks,

Further information

Meeting point :  8 a.m. at the cable car of "Les Grands Montets" in Argentiere. Back to Argentiere from Le Tour with public transports. Do not hesitate to contact us if you have any trouble to find the meeting point.
 

Ability level : For people who have an excellent physical ability. You can complete long ski tours, often at high altitude (above 13000ft), including strenuous mountaineering difficulty and vertical gain.
Technical level : For experienced ski tourer and people who are able to deal with exposed sections, side slipping and the use of a rope. Your skills include cramponing up/downhill, skiing efficiently in all types of snow and you feel secure with skiing across an exposed ski slope (up to 40°).

Guiding policy : minimum 1 to 4 participants per guide.
In terms of group size, the Compagnie des Guides de Chamonix's guiding policy is one of the strictest in the mountain guiding industry.

 

Accommodation : In catered mountain hut and hotel in Arolla (nights in dormitory).
 

Documentation : Participants must have mountain sports insurance with repatriation cover. We strongly recommend that this also includes cancellation cover. You can take out insurance offering both of these types of cover when you sign up. Participants must also take valid ID with them.

 

Preparing for the trip : One week before the trip, the mountain guide will be in contact to answer any questions you may have.

Equipment

Equipment
- Alpine touring skis with specially adapted bindings : permit free-heel position for climbing, lock
down for descent. If you choose telemark skis, don’t forget to put in blocks for climbing.
- Adhesive climbing skins
- Ski knifes : please check they’re adapted to your bindings
- Ski poles (avoid telescopic poles)
- Rucksack (for your comfort internal frame or frameless, approx 35-40 l. with proper waiststrap,
sternum straps, ski straps)
- Alpine touring ski boots with vibram soles
- Light harness
- Crampons and ice axe
- DVA, shovel & probe.
 
Clothing
Bring functional, breathable, quick drying material provinding minimum weight / maximum protection.
- A race ski suit or a classic ski suit pant/polar-pile fleece,
- Waterproof and windproof, non-insulated parka with hood (Gore-tex or equivalent)
- synthetic jacket or down or equivalent
- Warm ski gloves or mittens and lightweight gloves
- Warm ski hat or balaclava
- light sun hat with brim
 
Accessories
- A cotton or silk sleeping sheet is compulsory (Huts provide blankets, slippers or clogs).
- High-altitude sunglasses
- Goggles
- Head lamp
- 1 Camelbag or bottle (2 liters),
- Toilet Kit (pre-moistened towlettes, T.P., tissues, aspirin, elastoplast,
2nd skin kit, ear plugs and sleeping pills are optional) -
- Refuges don’t have running water - soap and shaving gear are unnecessary
- Personal prescription medicines
- Sun block for face and lips
- Pocket money for drinks in refuges
- Energetic foods for the 3 lunches
