Aiguille du Peigne - One of the iconic Aiguilles of Chamonix
The Aiguille du Peigne (3,192 m), one of the iconic Aiguilles of Chamonix, rises above the Plan de l’Aiguille and is easily accessed from the mid-station of the Aiguille du Midi cable car (2,310 m). Its name — “Peigne” means “comb” in French — refers to its jagged summit ridge, a striking feature that promises a spectacular finish, whichever route you choose. A true paradise for climbers and mountaineers, it’s ideal for both first-time experiences and more ambitious alpine adventures.
📩 Booking is available by email or phone only. Our team is here to help you choose the route that suits you best. Prices vary depending on difficulty and duration; full details are available in our dedicated brochure.
Normal Route - A classic alpine climb
The normal route follows the Papillons couloir up to the breach (3,043 m), where the real climbing begins (sustained 4+ French grade). The route weaves its way through weaknesses in the rock, combining variety with a strong alpine feel. It’s considered one of the most beautiful rock climbs in the Mont-Blanc Massif — comparable to the south ridge of the Aiguille du Moine. The descent is made by abseil back to the breach, then retracing the approach. As an option, the final pitch can be adjusted to include the famous Lépiney crack, an exceptional pitch (sustained 5c).
Papillons Ridge - A timeless Chamonix classic
Located on the lower buttresses of the Peigne, the Papillons Ridge is a historical and much-loved route first climbed in 1926. The climb (sustained 5a with a 6a move) follows a series of beautiful granite cracks and solid steps, leading up to the gendarme (3,009 m), just above the Papillons couloir. A short abseil leads back into the couloir for the walk down.
Multi-pitch Routes - Something for everyone
The Aiguille du Peigne offers a wealth of multi-pitch trad routes, with options for all levels. The Minettes Spur (4c max) and the Lepidopteres (5b max) are excellent introductions for those new to Chamonix granite. For more advanced climbers, "Le Rond, le Ticket et la Lune" (sustained 6a, 6b max) offers beautiful climbing on the Peigne slabs. On the southwest face, the Vaucher route (6a max) is the most popular multi-pitch option.
