General information
Dent du Géant - An iconic summit

The Dent du Géant (4,013 m) is one of the most recognisable peaks in the Mont Blanc massif. Its slender, tooth-like shape makes it a standout objective above the Géant Glacier. Although fixed ropes keep the technical difficulty relatively moderate (up to 4c), the ascent should not be underestimated. It takes place at nearly 4,000 metres in a highly exposed environment and requires solid fitness as well as confidence on rock.

The normal route - A demanding alpine climb

Despite the presence of fixed equipment, the Dent du Géant remains a true alpine climb. It is best suited to climbers who already have experience in multi-pitch rock climbing and are comfortable moving in a high-mountain environment.
The final section leads to the summit monolith, where the climbing becomes more sustained. The descent is made by abseiling from the summit block, a particularly exposed and impressive sequence that requires solid rope-handling skills.

A summit steeped in history

A statue of the Virgin stands on the summit of the Dent du Géant, one of several placed on peaks of the Mont Blanc massif during the 19th and early 20th centuries. These statues reflect a time when alpinism was closely associated with risk and faith, and today form part of the cultural heritage of the range.
