In which direction is the Tour du Mont Blanc walked?

The Tour du Mont Blanc is usually walked in an anti-clockwise direction: France, Italy and then Switzerland, before returning to Chamonix. This direction follows the historic route and allows for a natural progression through the stages. It is also possible to walk it in a clockwise direction in order to encounter fewer walkers during the day.
