Technical Level 1: For occasional off-piste skiers who want to discover ski touring along the edge of pistes.
Technical Level 2: For regular off-piste skiers, capable of skiing in all snow conditions on wide, gentle slopes, and who want to discover ski touring.
Technical Level 3: For occasional ski tourers (2 to 5 recent outings), capable of skiing in all snow conditions on wide, gentle slopes.
Technical Level 4: For regular ski tourers (5 to 10 recent outings), capable of skiing in all snow conditions on varied slopes with some technical sections, mastering kick turns, and possessing basic knowledge of using crampons and an ice axe.
Technical Level 5: For experienced ski tourers (more than 10 recent outings), capable of skiing in all snow conditions on varied and exposed slopes with technical sections, mastering kick turns and the use of crampons and an ice axe.
General information
Crossing the Col du Passon on Skis
The Col du Passon is one of the iconic passes of the Mont Blanc massif, offering a magnificent winter crossing between the Argentière and Tour glaciers. The route takes you across extensive glacier terrain, with exceptional views of the surrounding peaks, including the Aiguille Verte (4,122 m) and the Chardonnet (3,824 m). We offer this ski tour over two days, with a first day to reach the Lognan hut before crossing the Col du Passon the following day and enjoying a long descent via the Tour Glacier to the village of Le Tour. Designed for skiers with previous ski touring experience, this trip is an opportunity to discover high mountain ski touring while combining skiing and mountaineering.
Extend Your Ski Tour on the Tour Glacier
For a more complete experience, discover our Tour Glacier ski tour, offered over three days and available from early in the winter season. After crossing the Col du Passon, the itinerary continues with an additional night at the Albert I hut before exploring the Grands and Bron glaciers and returning to the village of Le Tour.

Meeting Point
Meet at 9:00 am at the Grands Montets (Argentière), in front of the ticket office. Return to Argentière from Le Tour by public transport. To help reduce traffic in the valley, we recommend reaching the meeting point by bus or train.
Itinerary
The itinerary is provided as a guideline and may be adjusted according to the level of the group and mountain conditions.
Technical Level
For skiers confident skiing off-piste in all snow conditions, with good ski touring experience and the ability to perform kick turns. The route follows wide slopes with short narrow sections of up to 35°, as well as pass crossings that may require the use of crampons and an ice axe.
Physical Level
For participants who exercise regularly. Up to 1,000 m of ascent per day and 5 to 6 hours of physical effort per day.
Guiding Policy
Guided by an IFMGA mountain guide, with 4 to 6 participants per guide. Registration possible from the age of 18.
Accommodation
During the ski tour: half-board in a mountain hut. Before and after the trip: benefit from preferential rates with our hotel partners in Chamonix.
⚠️ Documentation
Mountain sports insurance with repatriation cover is mandatory. If you are not insured, we offer repatriation and cancellation insurance, which can be taken out when booking. Valid ID is mandatory.

Itinerary
Day 1
Grands Montets - Lognan Hut
We take the ski lifts at Grands Montets to the top of the Bochard gondola (2,766 m). A short descending traverse takes us to the Lognan Glacier (2,700 m). We then climb via the Col des Rachasses to the Col des Grands Montets (3,225 m). From here, we begin a magnificent descent to the Argentière Glacier, which we follow to the Lognan Hut (2,067 m), where we spend the night.
Elevation gain: approx. 575 m / Elevation loss: approx. 1,200 m
Day 2
Col du Passon - Tour Glacier
We set off towards the Col du Passon (3,028 m), following the Argentière Glacier before crossing it to reach the Passon moraine (2,380 m). The moraine is crossed on foot and may require the use of crampons. We then continue on skis over wide slopes to the foot of the col, which we reach in crampons via a couloir with around 100 m of elevation gain. From the col, the views open out over both the Argentière and Tour basins. We then begin a long descent via the Tour Glacier to the village of Le Tour (1,450 m), with almost 1,500 m of superb skiing. We return to Argentière by public transport in the early afternoon.
