Skiing

Skiing in Chamonix offers access to one of the most spectacular high-mountain environments in the Alps, whether you are looking for off-piste skiing, ski touring or classic alpine descents in the Mont Blanc massif.

The Chamonix Valley is home to several world-famous ski areas renowned for their exceptional off-piste terrain. On the slopes of Brévent and Flégère in the Aiguilles Rouges range, numerous itineraries offer breathtaking views across the glaciers and peaks of the Mont Blanc massif. From the Aiguille du Midi cable car at over 3,700 metres, the legendary Vallée Blanche descent takes skiers through a spectacular glacial landscape of seracs and crevasses all the way down to the Mer de Glace. The Grands Montets ski area, famous for its outstanding snow conditions, also provides access to the Argentière basin, one of the great ski touring playgrounds of the Alps.

Beyond day trips in off-piste terrain, Chamonix is also the starting point for some of the most famous ski touring journeys in the Alps. Multi-day tours with overnight stays in mountain huts allow full immersion in the winter high-mountain environment. From the valleys of the Italian Val d’Aosta to the Swiss Valais, classic traverses such as the Haute Route from Chamonix to Zermatt combine ski touring, spectacular glacier landscapes and unforgettable alpine scenery.
